Oxidized sterling silver, granulation, paint
Beginning with a simple form of oxidized sterling silver, maker, Susanne Elstner enlivens her composition with the vivacious charm of silver strands. In her Allowed to Pet collection, she encourages one to interact in her piece's tactile design.
"Working with the finest wires in gold and silver opens up possibilities of extraordinary shaping that look natural and alive. The filigree processing creates the visual impression of velvety softness and is nevertheless extremely stable. The association with creatures from flora and fauna creates the desire to touch - 'to stroke.'"
Supple strands of darkened silver spire from its mother form in galvanizing illumination. Rounded ends of granulation are ever so delicately painted over in tones of deep orange and crimson which evolve to a gleeful yellow. The warm rushes at the tips of the metal fibers seem to burst from their frame, spurring excitement to the touch as well as intrigue to gaze upon as it adds shape and dimension to its peculiar composition. Elstner brilliantly manifests a piece eager to stir our fascination in every direction. With a slight pinch ofits silver pins, one may release them from their clasp for simple fitting andsheer admiration.
